Abacavir Tablet is used with other medications in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Abacavir belongs to a group of drugs known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). It works by lowering HIV levels in the bloodstream. Although abacavir does not eliminate HIV, it can reduce your risk of acquiring AIDS and HIV-related illnesses such serious infections or cancer. These drugs, together with safer sex practises and other lifestyle modifications, may reduce the risk of spreading the HIV virus to others.
