Pegasta Pegfilgrastim injection is used to lower the risk of infection in persons who have certain forms of cancer and are taking chemotherapy drugs that may reduce the number of neutrophils in their blood (a type of blood cell needed to fight infection). Pegfilgrastim injection can also be used to improve the chances of survival in persons who have been exposed to high doses of radiation, which can cause serious and life-threatening bone marrow destruction. Pegfilgrastim belongs to the colony-stimulating factors class of drugs. It works by assisting the body in the production of more neutrophils.
