Amifostine injection is used to reduce the dryness in the mouth after the radio therapy of head and neck cancer. Amifostine reduces the free radicals produced by the cisplatin in chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Amifostine protects the normal cells against the harmful effects of chemotherapy medications by producing a certain chemical. Side effects: Nausea, vomiting, fever, chills.
