Darbepoetin Alfa Injection is used to treat Anemia (low red blood cell count) in persons who have chronic kidney disease or who are undergoing chemotherapy for certain forms of cancer (cancer that does not involve the bone marrow or blood cells). Darbepoetin alfa also aids in the reduction of blood transfusions. It works by inducing the production of extra red blood cells in the bone marrow. This drug is extremely similar to the natural component in your body that prevents anemia (erythropoietin).
